We refinish all types of hardwood floors, including oak, maple, cherry, and more.
The length of the refinishing process will depend on the size of the area being refinished and the condition of the floors. Typically, the process takes between 2-7 days.
This is called seasonal wood movement. This is completely normal. Wood is a natural material that acts like a sponge: it expands in the humid summer months and shrinks in our dry Pennsylvania winters. This shrinkage can cause small gaps to appear. Maintaining a consistent humidity level in your home (between 30-50%) with a humidifier in the winter and a dehumidifer in the summer is the best way to minimize this effect.
To ensure the project runs smoothly, the client is responsible for moving all furniture, and breakable or personal items out of the work area before we arrive. While we take great care, we cannot be responsible for moving furniture or any items left in the workspace. The job site should be empty and clear for us to begin our work.
The most important rule is to avoid water! Wipe up any spills immediately. For cleaning use a lightly damp rag or microfiber mop. **NEVER** use products with polish, wax or oil, steam cleaners, vinegar, or general purpose cleaners. Only use cleaners that specifically state "for hardwood floors" such as Bona, Pallmann, Swifter, Bruce or Zep.
Patience is the key to a long-lasting finish. Light foot traffic (in socks only) is typically okay after about 3 hours. However, you should wait at least 7 days before moving furniture back onto the floor. Do not place any area rugs down for at least 14 days, as the floor needs to "breathe" to properly cure and harden.
No, and that's part of its natural beauty. As a natural product, no two piece of wood are ever identical. You should expect to see variations in color, grain, an character marks like knots or mineral streaks, even within the same board. These natural variations are what give hardwood floors their unique and timeless character.
Project timelines vary depending on the size of the job, the service being performed, and the type of finish used. A simple recoat may take one day, while a full installation requires time for wood acclimation, installation, and multiple coats of finish to cure. We will provide a specific, detailed timeline for your project during your consultation
It is preferred but not necessary. In some cases, such as a full remodel, you may choose to remove or replace the trim. Some paint touch-ups are to be expected if trim is left on. We can discuss the best option for your specific project.
We offer a few options. We can sand just the treads (the flat part you step on), or both the treads and the risers (the vertical "toe-kick") for a complete look. We can also "cap" your existing stairs with new hardwood. Please note that we do not sand or finish other parts of a staircase like banisters or spindles.
